  • Festiva ISSUES!!!

    Started up.. warmed it up.. then abotu a 1/2 mile down the road... rpms dropped to 0 and it died. WHAT THE F? This is my current car.. and it gets me to work. O one more thing... when i usally crank it the tach jumps... but now it doesnt. Coil was my guess....

    UPDATE... above the dist cap there is a little black sensor with a very thin wire linking it to the coil. THe wire was disconnected or rather ripped at the base of the sensor. What is this sensors purpose.. and could it cause my car to completly die?

        Is that the igniter, or resistor ??

        I would say it need to be connected

            Very possible for the wire to become brittle and break , it is close to a heat source .

              That's no sensor. It's a capacitor or something. It's embedded in a block of black stuff.
              I'm at the library so can't take a look right now. Pretty sure it's mentioned in the Haynes manual. Will try to remember to look it up when I get home.

                It keeps ignition noise out of the radio. You don't need it. Sounds like your ignition control module in the distributor may be bad.

                  Update.. changed wires.. cap and rotor... and coil. Still a dead motor. Spark plugs are new. Where is the Control module? If i pull the dist could it be fixed?

                        Yes! I took it if.. and took it apart Eeeek. It was one messy distributor.

                          have you tested your coil?? they tend to go bad (previous experiance)
                          Trees aren't kind to me...

                          currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
                          94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.
