What is the proper way to tension a timing belt, how much torque do you apply to the bolt on the tensioner?

your best bet would be to pick up a haynes or chilton manual from your local parts store for about $20. They have good writeups on procedure, photos, and torque specs.

Well the manuals don't even help you that much, I just made it tight enough where I felt the belt wouldn't skip (not too tight or it will snap) and tightened the tensioner to about 25-30 ft lbs.. -Kyle

Are the earlier tensioners different from the later automatic tensioners?
