  • 2500 Rattles... help?

really annoying noise right at 2500 rpm. no other. it comes from the right side of the engine bay (passenger) and it's really annoying. loud little bugger.. kinda like a screw is loose and rattling really fast or like my cone filter is rattling against the side or something...

it's a metal on metal rattling noise.

    ideas?
doesn't do it if the car is sitting still... i tried that last night... idk why.

Try having somone in your car with you listening for it at the 2500rpm limit.

Have you checked all of your heat shields from the manifold all the way to the cat .

phan... happens at all times for some reason... tried that too lol

glutz.... i'll check... why would that rattle though? i've got my cone filter right above it but i've suspended it with quick ties lol it doesn't seem close enough.. will check though.

                ????????????????? Wes
The heat shields are wrapped all the way around the down pipe from the manifold all the way to the cat converter .

They deteriorate and become loose and like to rattle at different RPM's
The top cover over the manifold will make a lot of noise also , more when they start cracking around the bolt holes .

but yeah.. i'll check that today. doesn't do it when the car isn't moving so i can't exactly have anyone else run it while i look... doesn't work too well... but yeah.

Years ago....maybe 15 or so.... mine made noise. I went to take it out, the nuts and bolts holding together broke, I put new ones (stainless) in with washers top and bottom. Not a problem sinsce.
Do you need it...without looking... i think the shifting linkage is right above it, without it, it will rust up quicker, making shifting difficult.

Before mine got real bad , I took a stainless hose clamp and fit it around the pipe/heat shield and crank it down , the noise left .

Now I have no heat shield at all , I took them all off and the one on top of the mani.
                            No problems

agreed. I've had no heat shields for years, with no adverse effects.
