I recently put new shifter bushings and clutch in my 91' Festiva. I drove it around a few miles and everything was shifting out fine, but the shifter still had a decent amount of slop and play in it. On my trip back to the house 1st and 2nd gear became hard to find. I would have to wiggle it around in neutral and the up and down into 3rd and 4th and then eventually would eventually let me go into 1st and 2nd. Any ideas on the issues?

Which bushings did you replace? There are two for the shifter, then four on the u-joint at the transmission. There is also a rubber bushing in the shift stabilizer bar but it's not as critical unless it's gone. If you only replaced the two at the shifter it'll still be sloppy.'88 L- B6d-Sidedraft Dellorto Carbs-G-Series-Advanced Suspension

You say the rubber bushing on the stabilizer where it attaches to the transmission is worn out, so that is your biggest problem. A nylon washer will not fix the problem of the missing rubber. The stabilizer being stable is critical to the stability of the shifter... in addition to the rubber surrounding the housing of the shifter itself. You will need to get a new bushing for the stabilizer in order to remove all the sloppiness in the shifter. When you get the stabilizer bushing, remove the steel sleeve inside the bushing before your try to insert it into the stabilizer bar housing, then put it back in after you push the rubber part into the housing.
Here is a link about fixing your fallen shifter which happens if the rubber is worn out and separated in the shifter housing. https://fordfestiva.com/forums/forum...-shifter/page1 got to page 2 of this post to see pictures.
Here is another link that shows how to fix the problem inclusing how to make your own stabilizer bushing if you cant find one to buy. https://fordfestiva.com/forums/forum...ushing-trouble
