  • 93 festiva will not start

93 festiva, 95k miles, 5speed, no air, well maintained...mayor tune-up 18months ago. engine turns over, cranks but does not run. my mecanic says it is getting fuel but no spark, he changed the coil:nothing yet. so it seems some electrical issue. could it be the ecm? or some other module? fussible links? cold here in michigan.....a few weeks ago it took me 25 minutes before it started...should have seen this coming. for 12 yrs it started fine even at -15f.

I'd start with the fusible links. Mine were corroded and it wouldn't start.

Welcome to the 'no start' club; I've been dealing with the same issue for years (90 Lplus). Even Ford can't fix it.

Coil, condenser, ignition module, or open circuit. Hows your dist cap ? You might read some of the other posts to see if they describe your situation. Here is one for example.

there is a crank position sensor inside of the distributor, maybe that went out. the igniton control module which is one the coil bracket it the bigger one of the two sensors.

Here is a picture of it on ebay

Add your location under "profile" above and check your spark plug wires.
had same problem with my wife's car a few weeks ago always started for years then "bam" wouldn't start, no way!
Replaced the wires and presto starts almost instantly!

18K on average quality parts...pushing their limit
How did you determine you did not have spark...As PU241 said...maybe it's just the wire from the coilt ot he dist...just a start.

OK, don't change the $25 sparkplug wires!
Anyone else ever have an ECU go bad?
I changed my coil, distributor, ignitor, rotor and cap before I was smart enough to check my plug wires!
Same-thing you have, no start, even tried to used another battery to jump start it!
Just started to over heat the starter!
Swap the plug wires out and she fired right up!
But by all means enrich your parts swapper!

Yes i did....not sure if it was the water the fireman used or the fire that preceded their arrival.

it sounds like you don't actually have a mechanic, but just a "parts till it starts" "roulette diagnostics" parts swapper. Find yourself another tech....

I'm with FB71. your mechanic can't troubleshoot electrical stuff.

Get your mechanic to visit the site, I'm sure he will see the light.
There are many people here that can and will help him. This is a vehicle specific site, that means it's pretty much about one vehicle. We have a wealth of knowlege to share about that one vehicle. Many here have more knowledge than that, but every problem that could be encountered with these cars have been encountered somewhere here.
                            it runs so sweet

Spark plug set has a wire that goes from the coil to the distributor!
If this is bad you will not get spark at distributor or plugs.
I hope your not paying for this "mechanic"!
Once again do me the favor of putting you location in your profile (no salesmen will call)!
Go to the top of this page and click on "profile" and scroll down to location.
It is optional, but it is to your advantage, as someone might be in the area that can help you for free!
