  • Lower Control Arm...Nut and bolt issues.....

I am trying to replace my passenger side knuckle on my 88 festiva. I have everything off but the nut and bolt for the lower control arm. Can't tell, due to all the rust if it was rounded before, it still looks okay but a 14mm, which is what I think it is originally supposed to be, is too big for both sides and a 13 mm is too small.??? I tried american sockets but couldn't get one to fit. Any suggestions. This is the only thing holding me up. Thanks, Jim

Cleaning with a wire brush and penetrating oil should help. If the socket slips then locking pliers (vice grips) and a hammer might get one of the nuts turning. Sometimes you can tap an undersize socket on enough with a hammer to loosen a nut. Good luck.

I ended up taking it to a local mechanic so he could get it apart. I hated doing that. But at least it's done.

If that is a drivers side knuckle I will gladly pay you for it. Thanks, Jim
