Steering wheel removal

I have an 89 Festy on which im attempting to install a grant steering wheel. I cant seem to get the horn pad off, so before i break anything, is there a secret? I pulled the 2 screws from the outside edge of the pad, i can pull the pad away from the wheel abit bit but thats where it hangs up. It is somehow attached to a metal plate thats screwed to the main mounting plate

you can pop the center logo off to get to the main bolt

Pull off the Ford emblem... It's a 19mm bolt holding it on.

You can use a steering wheel puller... I have better luck grabbing at 9 and 3, and then just pushing and pulling from one side to the other. Just watch, it'll fly off!

I leave the bolt screwed in a couple of turns so that doesnt happen

Thanks for the info, the wheel came off easy after that. The new problem is that the Festy spline is a smaller diameter than the wheel. Do they make an adapter for this? I purchased this wheel off of Ebay from someone who said they pulled it right off of their 93 Festy, no adapter necessary. Is there a size difference in the splines between an 89 and a 93?

Yes they make a Grant adapter for your wheel , available at most parts stores .
