  • what to do with frozen drum????

so i got an aspire axle i was looking to rebuild it has been sitting in the elements for who knows how long and the dum will not budge or spin ive been trying to wedge a pickle fork in between the drum and splash shield and the splash shield is the only thinkg moving, on the plus side i knocked about 20lbs of rust off the axle, por-15 here i come! anyways should i try cutting the drum with an angle grinder or maybe oxy torch? i dont want to hurt the spindle. i give up for today but any ideas would be great

You could try heating the drum up. That would cause the drum to expand and perhaps help break loose the drum. Also would some sort of pully puller/drum puller help?

                MDID Multi Directional Impact Device

With the hammer, hit the face of the drum in

                or

                1) Leave the asembly outside over night and let it get really cold.
                2) First thing in the morning five a 5 gallon bucket with full hot tap water
                3) Poor the water on the drum and try to shock it
                4) When it does not come off swear at the idiot who gave this idea.
                5) when there's no hot water for showers...tke the rest of the day off.

Pour oil in it before tapping gently as suggested.
I find yelling helps. Could be the sonic vibrations.

Did you ever get the drum free? You could also try removing the claliper bolt(s) and see if drum will know budge. I gather you tried adjusting the brakes so the are in as far as possible.

                          yelling does help!!

i have a wheel puller large enough to get on the rear drums, if you don't you can rent them at autozone. spray everything liberaly with PB, put the wheel puller on it and tighten down, then beat on hte drum w/ the HMFA, apply heat, and yell a lot. If all else fails, put it on the car with a wheel on and go for a drive...

Attach it to another car with a steel cable, back up as close as possible, and floor it.

From my experience, this will not help get the drum off at all, but it sure is fun. The Festiva will go flying and there will be staring and laughing from neighbors.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.
