OIL PAN.....It took me 4 gaskets and a new pan to figure it out after I reinstalled the block....A MUST READ

I have most everything back together. Unfortunately I didn't do things in reverse order and now have a bit of a problem. I put the oil pan on before I tightened the crankshaft pulley bolt. When I loosened the bolt, I put a 1x2 up to where the rod would wedge the against the board. I think what I'll have to do is take a 2x4, drill 2 holes the distance as 2 holes on the camshaft pulley. Run 2 bolts through the board, through 2 holes and use is as a pry bar to hold while I tighten the crankshaft bolt. Then I have to reattach the alternator, add oil and filter, reattach intake, and plug wires.

Let me know if there are any better ideas.

Have a buddy get in the car put it in fourth gear clutch out and stomp on the brakes, then you can tighten the crankbolt. Dont forget the black silicone on the crank bolt threads.

Fresh, that worked like a charm! Only have to bolt up the exhaust and I think she is ready to start. Nuts didn't feel right when I put them on the exhaust manifold studs. I took a time out and decided before I really screw something up I will get new ones tomorrow and finish the job....fingers are crossed.

I have no idea how I'm going to time this motor. There are no timing marks...ie ruler or pointer above the crank pulley. I'm probably going to do the middle and then turn left 1/4' until I can find a ruler or pointer. I will see if I have one on Minnesota Red that I can snag for a minute.

There should be a white timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and a white pointer on the timing belt cover.

My white timing mark wore off so many years ago......
The notch is still there, a lil dab of white paint, pretty much anytime I wanna check it out, but that is what ears are for

Always a good idea to keep a piece of chalk or better yet a paint marker in the tool box.

Well, I've come to decision that I don't necessarily prefer, but must make. I will not be taking the blue Festy to Ozark, but I will will be taking Levistiva. I've run out of time and knowledge. I got the blue one running with no leaks...I think.... but there is a serious idle problem. It is maxed out on the throttle cable and the bracket has been bent to help, but to no avail. I think it is in the timing, but I loosened the bolt on the distributor and the distributor won't budge.

All efforts from here on will be put towards Levistiva. I hate the fact that I will be showing up with the "ugly duckling" of the Meet, but am glad that I will be there. Guess I will have to shoot for the "most improved" next year.

You said bolt, not bolt(s), plural, mine has 2 to move the disty and adjust timing....
