remove it or not?

I will be swapping out the 4 spd for a 5 speed in my 89 Festiva and my only question is: Can I do it without taking the engine out? If anyone has done it either way pleaqse let me know, so I can make preperations

I don't think there is any need to remove the engine.

I removed the battery and the tray and it appears that there's room, but you never know?

Are you trying to remove it from the top? I think generally people remove transmissions from underneath. There should be plenty of room to get it out without taking the engine out.

Well, I was asking in general...I'm sure it it's easier from the bottom then thats where it'll go...

yup...jack it up high enough to clear the car when you pull it out from under it and you should have it out in no time. they are pretty light.
