  • Vacuum valve on carburetor

I was in the process a little while ago of assembling the new engine for the Silver Bullet. I discovered that there is a valve mounted on a bracket to the left rear of the carb (as looking forward) with a vacuum nipple broken off. It is connected by linkage to the carburetor right next to the throttle linkage.

The whole valve resmbles the EGR valve, but it has a plastic top with two vacuum nipples. I would post a photo, but I can't seem to do so on the threads well. The nipple that broke off faces to the rear.

Any idea what this is and:
a.) How easy is it to get a new one, or
b.) Can it be epoxied back together without clogging the hole.

Oh yeah, this is on the intake off my parts car. The original one is broken in the same spot, too.

I finally figured out the posting of photos thing. This is the view of the carb/intake looking forward from the rear. The plastic valve is what I'm talking about and you can see where the nipple broke off.

        Fixing a nipple.....been there....don that.
I would not even waste the time glueing.
Drill and tap the body to insert a thread by barb fitting or just the treaded part of a screw that you have drilled a hole thru the axis of. Connect the hose to the part of the screw projecting from the valve body. Use some hi-temp RTV. One of my rides has an MAP that is did the screw trick to.

        These picts are from my '92L charcol canister....busted it a long time ago....installed a 1/8M-NPT X barb.

That's a great idea. I'll pick up the brass nipple at Home Depot and give it a try. Thanks. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

It makes the engine idle faster when there is an electric load or when the A.C. is on. I put silver tape on mine to clog the hole and Teed the 2 hoses together but fixing it the way jglutz says would be better and more original.

I tried to fix the nipple the way jglutz recommended, but due to the size of the valve and the fact all I could find were 1/4" NPT fittings, I ended up crazy gluing the nipple on and followed it up by smearing some of the aviation grade double-bubble epoxy we use at work all around the base of the nipple. I don't believ it will go anywhere now.

Is that the epoxy you can be used on the rotor blades? That epoxy is great stuff! Just smells like a dead skunk! I have got to find a new source for it.

I know the stuff you're talking about. No, this isn't that stuff, but a heavy-duty epoxy called double-bubble because it comes in two joined pouches that you squeeze out together. I've seen the double-bubble brand in stores, too, but this is marked for industrial use only.
