  • Easiest way to replace clutch ??

I have my new clutch kit.I have never done one before, but,am confident I can do it .Is there an easier way to do it besides removing the engine or tranny ?

Not according to the Haynes manual.

pay someone else to do it?

The only practical method is to remove the trans, or maybe the engine

I removed the engine when I did mine....left the tranny in the car. While it is out it gives you access to cleaning the engine bay and degreasing the engine. Was pretty simple to do....according to Francis it only takes 2 hours (inside joke for Brian), but it takes a little longer then that....especially if you go the route I mentioned and do all the cleaning too. Nice time to change gaskets and water pump...especially the oil pan gasket.

since the clutch is between the engine and transmission you have to take out one or the other. i would suggest removing the engine as the trans has 3 mounts and will stay in place. also if your not doing it on a lift then you will spend most of a day(or weekend) sliding around on your back. I also HIGHLY recommend replacing the rear main seal while you have the flywheel off for machining.

Well....,I may want to just pay someone to do it.I can't have it down too long.If I had a spare car I would definately pull the engine. As it is , I think I will look around for someone who can do it.Geneva, you live close to me.Know anyone who would do it reasonably ???

you can easily pull it off on a weekend. I replaced my trans in an evening and I had never done anything like that before.

Haaa....didn't even look at your location. How bad is the clutch. Do you have time before it actually needs changed? We could do it in a few hours no problem if you have the parts and a cherry picker.

When I did my mine, I had the tranny out in less than hour. That included jacking up the car and everything. I took my time, but all together I had it done in less than four hours if I remember correctly. I wrote an article about how to remove the tranny. It is in the Other's Article forum.

                      ^^Good article.
The Haynes manual is cookbook for this.
With all the necesaary stuff removed...including the starter...the tranny can be picked or droped to the floor...if the car is high enough with only one hand grabing the tranny thru the starter hole. Cann't ask for an easier clutch change than the festiva.

If the clutch cable has not been replaced...I would not loosen the adjustment nut but rather remove the bracket to prevent getting the nut stuck on rusted threads. Will be apparent once you look at it.

I don't have a cherry picker. It is bad, but,I can still drive it around town if there aren't too many hills.
