  • brake self adjusters

While doing other work on my 91 GL the parking brake froze. I took the right side apart today and took the whole adjuster assembly out. I could not get it un-stuck so I drilled out the pivot points and replaced them with stainless steel machine screws, washers, nylok nuts, and a little high temp grease. I also used my dremel tool to clean up the affected surfaces. This seems like an alright idea to me but I wanted to check with some of you to see what you think of the idea.

    Thanks,

I replaced the pivot bolts (clevis pins) on mine some years back with ordinary steel bolts through which I drilled holes for cotter pins. I check them and regrease annually. No problems. In 2006 my brake line rusted through and the brakes failed. I had to drive home using the hand brake (slowly, back streets). I recommend keeping the hand brake in good working order on older cars.
