  • stall on deceleration - but only with AC on...?

My car will stall under the following conditions:

Cruising at a steady speed, with the AC on. Something comes up where I have to decelerate quickly, but not ridiculously so. I start braking before I drop the clutch (normal behavior). When I do finally hit the clutch, then the engine sputters and dies. I am not letting RPMs to get too low and stalling it because of that.

This does NOT EVER happen if the AC is OFF.

This does not happen if I depress the clutch before I start braking.

    What gives?

Also, on a possibly related note, my AC has started clicking on and off randomly, both at idle and at speed.

    Ideas? Relay maybe?

Is it a standard a/c or did you install it? It could be that the wires are not large enough for the load that they are carrying. I had a similar problem when I fixed my engine fan. I had inadvertently used 18 gauge wire where I should have used 10 gauge. and every time I would shift or let the idle down it would sputter and sometimes die. also I burnt out my wiring and the fan would go on and off randomly.

The ECU/PCM bumps up idle when the A/C is on....whats odd is the ECU/PCM must know the A/C is on because it also engages the relay that engages the clutch.

Has the A/C been serviced recently, Excessive refrigerant pressure can cause these symptons.

If it is the IAC...should be able to dublicate similar symptons by letting the car idle with the hI-Beams on, waiting for the cooling fan to kick in the putiing your foot on the brake and putting the car in gear. This should creat enough of an idle load to check the IAC for blockage.
