  • cross between clunk and clink

hey, sometime when i accelerate (rarely) or shift to second (often) and ride over a bump or brake (rarely) the front end of the car makes a like clunk/clink kinda noise.
I know this isnt very accurate but i don't have much to go on either :S
    Appreciate any help,
    Thanks

yep, same thing happened to me and i changed ball joints and clunk went away. course could be cv or tie rod end also. check strut too and make sure bolts are tight

Could be a broken strut mount or a broken tranny mount. Just some more ideas.

Most likely....front sway bar...where it mounts to the lower control arm...both the arm and/or bushings are shot.
I agree with the tranny/engine mounts.

Strut....i don't know....when they are bad....they are bad in many driving conditions

I would say front sway bar bushings are worn out or gone. I had a similar problem. When accelerating it pulled to one side and when I left of the pedal the car would swerve to one side. Took me a little while to figure it out but when I finally looked at the bushings....it was completly gone on one side and clunked up a storm.

Mine had more clunk than clink. It it was the transmission saddle (?) resting on the sway bar. The cross-member rusted away where the two front bolts go into the cross-member.

AHHHHHH yes....I forgot about that one too....also had that on mine.....did make that clunk noise from time to time depending on how hard I drove it.

I recently changed out a ball joint on one of my Festivas. I replaced the one that was on there with another used one that "felt" tighter. After I put the "new" used one on there, you can hear a noise like a "clink" or a "clunk" while driving down a rough surface paved road. I think it's the "new" used ball joint I stuck in there.

Somebody mentioned it could be a strut seat but I never fooled with that.

Take it to a alinement shop. Let them tell you what needs replacement.
