I'm having trouble with a leak at the engine oil drain plug on a 93 Festiva. The original washer/gasket was badly deformed and I tried replacing it but I'm plagued by a persistent leak. I also tried teflon tape since the drain is almost like a pipe fitting but that merely slowed the leak somewhat. I've re tightened it several times, also to no avail. I haven't been able to find a replacement drain plug or a washer that fits correctly and am at a loss for what to try next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

While the oil is drained....take some piece of flat stock and wrap it with some emery cloth....±220 grit...and sand/flatten the area on the pan where the plug mates. Use a coper washer under the head of the plug. Old copper washers and be sanded flat and re-used. Most parts stores sell new copper washers.Joe Lutz
