yeah ur link doesn't work, but from all those things i have seen i have only seen one electric type blower work and it was about $800 and it was only good for about 3 PSI. The problem is that those things do not compress are, they only accelerate it. Your engine is kinda like a big vacuum, is sucks in a lot of air and those little electric fans can some times interfere with how much air they can suck in causing a restriction, basically meaning that the fan can't accelerate the air as fast as the engine can do by itself, so it will hurt you in some cases. I have heard of guys putting them on and not noticing a dang change, and other guys say they only notice that it smoothes out the engine, but only a little.

I heard smaller engines/cars improve mileage but you seen what Detroit did to the Festiva/Aspire and Metro.

Detroit has had a running fight between CAFE (fuel economy) and what the public would buy for the last 15 years. Stand out in front of an elementary school any morning and watch the soccer moms arrive. Their version of an economy car is a BWW SUV with over 300 HP. Believe me Detroit has done everything possible to improve fuel numbers on big Detroit Iron.

I toured the MB plant in Stuttgart a few years back and asked why we couldn't get the small Mercedes diesels that were running all over Europe. They called a marketing VP out to talk to me and he stated that they couldn't sell enough small diesel cars in America to pay for the costs of the EPA certification.. Notice that our Festiva hasn't been sold in this country since 1993.

We has met the enemy and they is us.....

I read about a similar apparatus in Popular Mechanics about 55 years ago. They claimed "Blazing Power, Fabulous gas milage".

At that time, they mounted UNDER the carburetor. The air flow spun the little impeller. The claim was that the spinner action better atomized the fuel before it went into the intake valve.

Because of FI, today's variation of the same thing mounts in the air intake, between the air cleaner and the throttle body. Supposedly, the way it works today is that the blades deflect the air and cause a vortex going into the intake valve and this somehow mixes fuel/air better.

The original version was a hoax. I don't see the modern version being any different, especially since we not have port injection and cylinder heads that swirl the mixture just by the design of the chamber. So, what's to gain.

Save your money. It's even less useful than these little hydrogen generators people are playing around with on their cars.

                      Mike,

Do you remember the intake knobs that Chevy cast into HP 2.02 small block heads. The factory said leave them alone as they introduce turbulence right before the valve. Naturally the port and polish guys said BS and promptly ground them right out. Took about 20 HP out of the engine and totally negated the effects of bigger valves.......

                      Sometimes we just don't believe.......

                        Jim:

I think you're talking about the knob of metal under the valve, in the port that is the end of the intake/exhaust guide?

                          those intake impellers are junk.

the major auto mags all did tests on them across a variety of vehicles and it did make a miniscule improvement on some of the cars, but only under a very specific scenario. overall it actually hurt mileage and power.

the only electric impellers that work are electric superchargers and i know of only one company making them with a good rep, and i cant remember it because they provide only a short burst of power and it isnt very much due to the current draw. kinda like a 50 shot of nitrous without the hassle of a bottle. the kit is also pretty expensive.

on a lighter note, my friends dad is a mechanic and um, "experimentor" he doesnt really invent anything, just gets really curious about "what ifs", like the day he found a hvac blower out of a bmw 7 series and discovered the thing had a 5 horse motor on it that could pressurize 4 feet of 2 inch tube to 3 psi. the thing looked like a centrifugal supercharger with a big electric motor on it instead of a pulley.

he installed it on his 1990 honda dx. provided an amusing jolt before the computer would have a fit and shut the car down.
is not sposed ta do that...
