ok so heres my story.. i did a engine swap on a 93 fi auto. i took a good motor that was from a carbed 89 4 spd and swapped heads with the one that was in the car to fuel injected and did a auto to manual conversion and on my first test drive it was running great for awhile and then i was going about 40 mph in 4th gear and hit the gas and it just cut off completely and would not restart again it would turn over but no fire at all so i had it towed to my usual shop and they said that it fired right up for them and ran fine other then a decent lil oil leak so i went and picked it up and drove it home and it ran fine the whole 20 minute drive home then i changed the fuel filter and took it for another test drive tonight and it did the same thing so shes just sitting along the road at the moment so if anyone has any idea on what the problem could be i would really appreciate any info you guys can give thanks

The ignition module could certainly cause this problem. Generally they go bad without warning and stay bad... but I had one that would come back to life on and off for several months before finally kicking the bucket for good.
Good luck!I'm going to come at you like a spider monkey!

verify a lack of spark!!! Also pull the distro cap and look for oil traces. oil in the cap can "short" out the IGN module causing a no spark, no start situation.
clean out the distro with BRAKE CLEAN, allow to dry, and drive home.Trees aren't kind to me...

its inside the distributor, in my case when it went bad i couldn't find a new one for a decent price, it was actually cheaper to buy a new distributor, check to make sure that you don't have spark though, if you do have spark, then ur out of luck as far as advice from me(GONE)88 Festiva LX 5 Speed, Factory A/C, Factory Tow Hitch, Tach.

there's an oil seal on the input shaft of the distro that shrinks and allows oil from the valve area in. seal conditioners can help, but really, rebuilding the distro is the only perminant fix.Trees aren't kind to me...

ok so heres the update i went to try and start it yesterday and she still didnt fire so i checked for spark and nope no spark so i took the cap off excpecting it to be fuul of oil but there was no oil at all so i sprayed it with some electrical cleaner and that seemed to get some dust off and tryed bending the lil metel thingy on the distro out a little and put the cap back on and she fired right up so i dont know if the distributor is bad or the cap needs replaceing or there was jus a lil dust build up from wear or something... any thoughts on if the cap or distro is or is going bad and i should replace??93 GL Auto black 183,000 miles

OK, so could be ignition coil not generating high voltage.
Much cheaper than new distributer.
Also, an off chance it is just the wire between the cap and the coil, but probably a low probability of something so convenient.
If the cap was bad when you pulled the wire it would have arced from something other than the contact in the cap tower contact that you took the wire from.
It could well have "bit" you too!
As you didn't see a spark I would think the caps OK and your problem is else were!'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)

ok so i was starting to think i had the problem fixed so i decided to take it on my trip for the weekend but what do ya know she only made it like half way before doing the same thing so i had to have it towed the rest of the way then i replaced the ignition module before leaving for home hopeing that maybe that was bad but nope still just cutting off for no apparent reason but its kina weird it only dies when i hit the gas its never died when its just been sitting idleing or any thing also both times its been towed its started right up after it got off the tow truck so im at a loss at this point????93 GL Auto black 183,000 miles

start suspecting the coil. when they get warm, they can cut out and cause a no-spark, but once they cool off again, all is good. it's dumb i know but unfortunatly typical.Trees aren't kind to me...
