Water Temperature Gauge

I have an 88LX that has a non-working temp gauge. I replaced the T-stat yesterday with a Ford OEM (2 stage) t-stat and still no change. I also recently flushed the rad and put in new coolant and a new cap as well.

I get heat in the car which is nice but I'd like to be able to see where the temp is at.

There is a sensor on the T-Stat housing. Is the the water temp sensor? If so is there a test to see if it's good? I read somewhere in my search that you could do an Ohm test??? (Not really sure what this is or how to do it. Can anyone clarify?

The sensor on the t-stat housing is the cooling fan switch. if you unplug it and ground the wire the fan should come on. I don't think that this controls the gauge but i could be wrong.

The coolant temp sensor is on the right side of the intake close to the back side of the cylinder head. should be a 2 wire sensor. hope this helps

When you unplug the fan wire you do not need to ground it....the fan will run if the key is on. I also thought the temp sensor was on the front of the head on the right side, just down and to the left of the fan sensor?

I think you are right Dirt on the sensor for the temp gauge, just down from the fan switch but in fairness to zrice88 there is one on the back side too.

I think the one on the back side is for the ECU.

temp sensor is a M8 x .75 and requires an adapter to fit a B6 (early) head. i'm currently looking into having a few made.

B6 is a metric NPT pitch, but i can't remember what it is at the moment, i'll get back to you on that.
