  • Replacing Suspension....Update with questions

Well, last night I took off the drivers rear strut/shock. Seems like its gonna be difficult putting the new one in. I pushed on the top of the one i took out, just barely, and it went all the way down and didn't come back up, ha. think its time for new ones? The spring looks ok to me, but is there anything I should look for? Obviously the whole time I've had the car the springs have been doing all the work. I can post some pics later if that would help. Should I get new insulators for the perch at the top? Or can you even get those anywhere? Thanks!

Heres some pics. tell me what you think. Shock/strut is dead, ha. What do you think about the wheel cylinders? If they aren't broke, don't fix it? The wheel cylinder looks wet in the last pic b/c theres brake cleaner on it.

Good! They're just a little rusty. I have this spray paint that you spray on rust that turns the rust to black primer to protect metals. Should I use some on the wheel cylinders? I'm gonna use it on the springs and then paint them.

no, don't paint the wheel cylinders. The surface rust on them doesn't hurt them one bit. The paint may, however, react poorly with the rubber parts. I don't know what solvent is used in that rust-converter stuff. Plain old Rustolem Red Oxide spray paint works great, and doesn't atteck the rubber, if used sparingly.

Yea, I was thinking about that. I'll just leave them alone. But I'm still gonna do something with the springs, just to protect them.

HOPEFULLY I am ordering all parts next Friday. I can't wait! All of the suspension and steering will be brand new along with a new set of tires. I can't wait to see how this thing is going to ride.
