Pressure plate to flywheel HELP!

Did you have the fork that holds the throw-out bearing apart or out?

If the tranny...when installed...bolt up flush...most likely your installeation is correct.
I'm not sure that over tightening the pressure plate is a problem...It mates flush with the flywheel...cann't get any tighter.

The stroke of the clutch...what you call out as 3/4 of an inch...is that measured ath the pedal?

No, i did not have the fork out, just the throwout bearing, and it was right there to swap and I don't think i screwed that up.

My "stroke of the clutch lever out 3/4 inch" as mentioned is not the clutch pedal depth, but the depth that moving the lever with my hand (moving it toward the rear of the vehicle) without the cable attached...

Check the bracket if its mounted correctly like Festy46 mensioned. I put it in the wrong way and my clutch wouldnt disangauge either. I would send you a pic of the bracket but I have the BP in and all the intake is on top covering it up....

Hopefully someone can shoot you a pic of the bracket and cable setup.

hmmm, if this is the case, then i may have had it right to begin with and this is all for naught! when i had it together and tried to push it with my hand, i just had a funny feeling that something didn't seem right... and b/c this may be pretty hard to do by hand, this may all be correct....

Now, i talked with my father-in-law about this and he said the old clutches (from the 60's) had some sort of ratchet adjustment on the pressure plate (ie fingers) that when you had a NEW clutch disc, you adjusted it accordingly and then as the disc wore down it ratcheted to adjust for the fingers....

is there any way to adjust a Festy pressure plate? this seems far fetched as i don't think so but thought i'd ask.

Also, any of you more experienced guys that have info on new vs old clutches i'd be interested to hear your history lesson!

It's impossible to push the clutch lever enough by hand to disengage the clutch. When I gave you the angle of the clutch lever, I had to use about a 30" pry bar to push it all the way in.

Festy clutch pressure plates are not adjustable. If they were, they would probably cost a couple hundred bucks at least.

Adjustable pressure plates are used more on big equipment. For example, one style of pressure plate that you may find on a big diesel generator power unit is an "over center" clutch that has 2 parts to it. One part is like a giant nut with threads on the inside that is the diameter of the flywreel. This part would be like the outside of the Festy clutch that you bolted to the flywheel. The other part which is like the actual plate in the Festy clutch that contacts the clutch disc. This plate has threads on the edge of it and it screws into the outer piece which gives you the adjustment. Screw it in for more grip or out for less. There is a locking tab and bolt to keep it from loosening once it is adjusted.

Thanks for the info.... yes, as others have said (and I just learned) the clutch lever is super super hard to push in by hand to disengage the clutch fingers...

By the way, i'll do some sort of write up with pics that may get stickied on this auto to manual swap as soon as i am done.

Transmission is bolted up and still seems like a little play and not enough tension. I'll put fluid in and start it and hopefully the tension will come...
