I have heard that sometimes the inner pipe can collapse due to rust or whatever and cause a plugged Exaust....but you would think that problem would be perminent...not intermitent.

      Replacement Fuel Filter

Well I finely replaced the Fuel Filter in the Festiva.....but being the Cheap Axx that I am....I was not going to pay $25 to $35 for a stock Replacement. I did some research on the filter our car uses and found out why they are so expensive. On the Fram filter site they rate there filters Alphabeticly - "A" being the fastes moving , "Z" being the slowest moving inventory. The Festiva Filter is rated "W " and only Fits a Feativa!!!

My solution was to go to Walmart and buy a Fram G3850 filter which fits a lot of different cars, including Mazda's.

My Filter on my car could have been the original for all I know...I bought it with 84,000 miles on it....now it has 171,000 and just now changed the filter.
The original Filter brackets rubber mounts were letting go so I just cut the fuel lines and the old filter and bracket came out with just a slight tug. Placed the new filter in the fuel hose with new Hose clamps.. on the new filter there is a bulge in the metal line... I made sure I worked the hose over it and put the clamp behind it to insure it wasn't going to blow apart. Then the New Larger filter was clamped onto the brace the original bracket used to bolt to with a Large adjustable plastic RV hose clamp that came from Walmart when they were being clearenced out....

Here is What came out on the inlet of the filter when I drained it......

The setup will get it's Big test February 2nd on my next trip to upper Michigan......and I will let everyone know if this was my problem...

I forgot to mention....The Fram Filter goes for $8.47 at Walmart...

How is that new clamp holding the filter in place? I need to replace mine and will probably have to do something similar to what youve done to hold the new one.

There is a small hole in the Brace on the right hand side. I just threaded it through the hole and over the top of the Brace and around the Filter. It seems real solid. You might be able to use a Large Zip Tie too....but I had this nice clamp just waiting to be used for something....
