So once I put the glove over the carb at high rpm's, how long do I leave it there before I pull it away. Do I let the engine die and how many times do i do this(or at least, what am i looking for) Thanks for the info and hope to get a reply!

How many times do I do this. I tried it about 7 times and it didn't seem to do much. How long do I keep the vacum/suction going and again, how many times do I do this and what am I looking for? I hope to get some information back and thank you!

I agree with Jasin, if necessary don't be afraid to adjust idle mixture. My car had a problem with vacuum leaks and had exactly some of the symptoms you describe. I had to set the idle adjust knob really high to keep it running and revs would go up and down randomly at no load between 500rpm (and sometimes less till the engine stalls) up to 1800/2000 rpm.
Replacing all hoses and using silicone sealer and clips was not worth the effort so I simply adjusted the idle mixture screw out (richer) until the revs did not vary randomly. This gives a very high idle but that can be corrected easily with the idle adjustment knob.
Goodluck and take note of how many turns you adjust the mixture screw in case you have to go back to the original setting!

PS: do not take the mixture screw out more than necessary to solve the lean misfiring - excessive richness simply wastes fuel and pollutes with HC!

2 years.....problem at idle...I'm thinking a dry rotted/cracked vacuum line somewhere in the circuit.

            All -

The following repairs solved the idle problem:

            - overhauled/rebuilt carberator
            - new spark plugs
            - new spark plug wires
            - new distributor cap
            - new fuel filter
            - new air filter
            - tightening a loose wire inside the distribtor (after the engine was warm the wire would start to arc and cause the engine to run rough/die in idle...can't take the credit, a mechanic found it)

Sorry for the belated thanks -
