  • Ok, somethings not right

This is from my other thread asking about the filter. I got a new breather filter, out it in and drove about 20 miles. Got home and checked it and the filter is wet with white crap again. The PCV valve is too. It doesn't smell like coolant. It just smells like oil and gas to me. What could be the problem? The hose from the valve cover to the air cleaner was full of white gunk also.

Mine gets it also and has it now, also my S-10 pick-up. Mine is only in the PCV and oil filler cap on both vehicles. We have been having some tremendous temperature extremes lately and i have been driving mine on just short trips not heating up the engines to operating temps for long enough to burn off the moisture caused by condensation. This could be one reason.

That should be enough heating up to keep the moister out. May be a blown head gasket like stated in the other thread.

Kind of sounds like a blown head gasket. Try changing the oil out and looking/smelling for coolant. If its not the head gasket there is some other coolant leak into the engine. Could be one of the many cooling lines for the throttle body, IAC, etc. Check all your cooling hoses and make sure none of them are leaking into the engine.

                  My car is carbed.

Is there any kind of additive or anything I should run through the oil or gas? Actually, 2 tanks ago, I ran a bottle of Lucas in the gas.

I had an old Ford pickup that did the exact same thing. The thing that fixed it was a higher temperature rated thermostat- just that easy.

change the oil, and add 1/2 can of Seafoam to the oil. Drive it for a few days, clean out the breather, and see if it helped. If my suspicions are correct, it won't, unfortunately...

Well, I pulled the dipstick when I got home....its covered in white sludge.....I give up. I've been waiting since September to fix the suspension on it and something always comes up.
