  • New Motor?

I'm wanting to rebuild my 1.3. I just looked at a new crate engine on ebay for $1,899 including shipping. Is that a decent deal, or can I get by cheaper rebuilding my existing motor?

IMO....crate motors are only good if you lost the one you had.

Seriously....rebuiding is much less...if you like that kind of thing go for it..

Not trying to dissuade you, because it would be quicker to drop a crate engine into a fester.
But for that kind of money, you could buy a couple of B3's or B6's and rebuild them and have cash left over!

I was going to buy a crate motor back when I had the money. Now I wish I had done it. What better than a brand new motor.

$1900 is a lot of money you could buy a whole festy for that and still have enough money for a b6 swap on both of them

I would never buy a crate motor for $1900, not because it is not good, I would love to have a crate motor, but I just think it is a little expensive for a small motor. IMO

1900 is enough for two b6t motors and transmissions...

Every car I have owned has had a turbo in it, until I bought this latest festiva.. I plan to fix that though.

Maybe he doesn't like a B6T. Can't just assume he does because it is the fastest, common, and easy swap.

Maybe he doesn't even want a swap at all.

$1900 is a little steep i'd say.. new or not. project b6t hit it on the head.. or even drop a BP in for much less than that. Remember, these aren't 2006 BMW's...
rebuild could be done for at most a quarter of that (pending labor).

That's why I throw my questions out there---Festy owners are about the smartest people out there. Not counting Alfred Einstien that is! Thanks for the input.

i rebuilt my last motor for about $600
                          piston and mods included

but then not everyone has friends in the machine shop business or a lift at their disposal

That's a big plus. If you don't have the time, connections and equipment. Then keep it simple. Buy the crate.
