I was looking at a 88 festiva today, it was a 5 speed, The guy who owned it said he had just put a new clutch in it, but now he had only 2nd,4th and reverse gear. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what he did wrong, or what happened? Thanks

Did he have the problem before he changed the clutch? It sounds to me like there is a syncro issue or other internal problem with the gear train itself.http://www.cardomain.com/id/hawkdoc60

Click & Clack used to say on even date drive with even gears...on odd dates drive with odd gears....in your case drive it every other day.
Some thing is wrong in the linkages....not connected...bent rod....strut nt in place...sounds like something simple.Joe Lutz

Check to see if he bolted the shifter up properly to the clevis yoke on the transmission. The bolts are 8mm and sized to just stick out the proper distance for a few threads to prodrude beyond the retaining nut. There is not much clearance. I hope he didn't substitute any other bolt. Disconnect the shifter and see if you can get it into all 6 gears with a Robertson screwdiver through the holes of the clevis yoke. It should go easily into all gears. Good luck.
Don't forget about pushing in, just as you would with the shifter stick.
About that bolt. Does anyone know if ebay item #170304413571 will substitute?
