  • Disabling fuel pump

    92 ATX

There is no fuse marked "Fuel Pump." The fuel pump relay and connector are about 10 feeet up and under the dash panel. Is there a way to disable the pump during compression testing etc.? Does the pump share a fuse with something. If so, that makes me think, What the...? There is the inertial switch in the rear of the car. I guess disconnecting the plug at that point would do it. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Think just engaging the inertial switch will do it!
A good whack should do it.

Yes, a "whack" should enage the switch, no need to disconnect it!

A pair of wire cutters at the fuel pump would work, too. LOL J/K Seriously, isn't there a plug on the top of the tank at the pump/fuel sender plate that could be disconnected?

yeah i do believe i remember a plug being right above the plate...or was it below it...

also if you're worried about breaking the inertia switch by hitting it you can remove the two screws and shake it....or as mentioned before, simply unplug it

a strong thump with the bottom of your fist should trip the inertia switch.

How is the inertial switch reset after the thump?

Well, if the switch is anything like the cop car I've been working on then its just a button you push back in after you've tripped the switch

                            Hey....hey...hey.
Obvously we are trying to use the key switch to do the compresion test....is the coil disconnected!?!?!?. I not... it should be!!!!

If you do not have a remote starter....with a heavy gauge wire....14/12AWG...just jump the starter solinoid coil input to the + terminal of the battery...this way a compression test can be completed with the keys in your pocket.

^^ Yes, the connector was removed from the distributor. Couldn't locate the remote switch. It's here somewhere. <grin> I had a helper in the cockpit manning the key.
Thanks tho. That's good advice for anybody. Don't need any flash fires in the garage.
