Well, I talked to the mechanic and he said that my bucking problem is coming from the carb, and that it either needs to be replaced or rebuilt. The car runs great except for that jumping when you start off. He said that rebuilding would be about $200 for just the labor, my question is: Should I rebuild or replace the carb, and if I am replacing it, is there a better version to replace it with, or should I just get a stock one? I have a rebuild kit, but I don't really know that much about carbs, so I'm a little lost here. Any help would be great, Thanx!

My first Festy bucked like a wild bronco when I took off. I compensated by feathering the clutch when people were riding with me, and simply ignored it when I was driving alone.
If it's driving you nuts I'd recommend rebuilding or replacing the carb, whichever is cheapest. There don't seem to be any aftermarket carbs for the Festiva, unless you want to go custom. The stock one is more than adequate for the B3 engine; some here have even used it on a B6 with no problems.White '89L auto - Sold!

find a used one (there are a couple on here) and put that one in. If the problem persist rebuild the stock one you took out.Ian Carr

Why, exactly, does the mechanic say it's the carb? Ask him to explain what the carb is doing to make the car buck. My car bucked on startup after I replaced the ICM. I don't think it was the carb. The bucking went away by itself upon restarting. Pretty sure it was spark timing.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

He adjusted the timing issue and the idle speed. he said that he wouldn't know exactly the problem until he opened it up, but it's probably either a warned down part or a gaskit, or a washer or just a bunch of gunk somewhere.89' Maroon and black Festiva LX with a sunroof. :alien:

Daniel,
Snatch up another carb and throw it on your car. See if it runs better. Whether it does or doesn't, send your carb with the rebuild kit I gave you to Hawk, throw him a bone for his troubles. Then you have a spare or throw it on and make the other a spare. Also, find another distributor for a spare. Sorry to hear you're having problems with the car, bro. I feel bad considering I sold it to you. But like I told you, I just swapped the distributor and did the basic cap, wires, plugs thang. Get this lil' glitch fixed and you have you a good car for a long time. I'll keep my eyes open for a carb and distributor.ENFORCER - Midwest Festiva Inc., Iowa

well i would have laughed at him when he said 200 to rebuild the carb. and ten asked him what he was smoking, so i could sell it and make a huge profit. becasue 200 is a bit much i would think to rebuild a carb for a festiva. best bet is to either get some on from teh forums to rebuild it fro you or buy a used one for alot cheaper than 200.1993 B6T swapped Festiva- Reich raceing ECU, Cork Sport down pipe, MBC for now, Capri Tranny. sold
