You said it was a crate engine, off of ebay? Were the bottom pulleys already on it? I'm wondering if perhaps one of the small backing plates is missing (not visible--behind the main pulley). Could that sort of thing keep your pulleys/belt from being "true"? Also, that is the cleanest alternator that I've ever seen on a festy. Is it original? Aftermarket? Could there also be an alignment issue there?

Just offering guesses. Do you have a spare "original" festiva alternator? I'd try that first, since it is easiest. Next thing is to pull the crank pulley, and verify the "shim" plates (for lack of a better word) are there. I think there are two...

One last ignorant (almost insulting) question: Have you verified that whatever belt the McParts store has given you is the right one? Lord knows that I've been burnt by several places...

    Good Luck,

The engine did not have any pulleys on it. I transferred the crank pulley directly from the old engine to the new engine with the shim stack up the same. I questioned that myself and reverified the correct setup using the maintenance manual.
