  • Advice for novice mechanic???

I'm about to attempt two repairs I've never done. The first is pretty straight forward. [1] Replace a snapped e-brake cable. [2] Replace a worn bushing on the right front. I've emersed myself in the Haynes Manual so I'm good there but if you have any additional adivce or anything you think I need to know please chime in. THANKS

There both pretty easy repairs compared to a head gasket or something. What bushing are you gonna do?

The one that separates the tie rod from the steering arm. I removed the passenger side wheel yesterday to see why I'm hearing popping when I make a strong left turn. The only obvious wear was this one particular bushing. It's shot for sure. Everything else looked good. I hope I'm calling this the right name.

Some people have tied in a length of wire cable with cable clamps to avoid having to replace the whole thing.

I guess the popping sound could come from the tie rod end if it is bad enough. It's CV joints that pop....replace half-shafts.

Make sure when you remove tierod ends to mark the postion of the jamb nut, so it won't throw your allignment off.
