I realize this is probably useless at this point, but here's what my Hayne's says.

Oil Pressure at 1000 rpm should be between 28 and 43 psi
At 3000 rpm should be between 43 and 57 psi
It also says that by the time the idiot light comes on, pressure is dangerously low.

I think, if you're very, very lucky, you might get 7 more days out of it. But only if you leave it in the driveway and use something else. I'd bet my next two paychecks that if you drive that car everyday between now and the 18th, you will blow the engine.

I hope you don't, but if I were you, I'd be ready for it to happen.

k, will plan for it just in case, have been babying it ridiculously, it sucks, but it has to be done, as far as intelligence goes:

Keep lots of oil in the car with you. Check it pretty much every time you get in it to go anywhere, and baby the car, you might make it til then.

The V-10s I talked about earlier in this thread, the first time the rods started making noise, I took it to the shop that did all of our heavy duty work. Told them what I thought it was, they said it was something else, and it would be fine. Called my boss and told him what I thought, and what they said. Boss said if the shop says it's okay to drive, then drive. The truck threw rods less than 50 miles later.

If the noise is getting worse, then the end is probably near. At some point, the knocking will get much worse, and the car will not want to move much at all. When it hits that point, I hope you are in your driveway.

well, it kicked the bucket tonight. only about 3 miles from the house, so dad put a rope around some of my frame and tied it to his hitch and I rode the brake while he toad me back in his 2002 Mazda Protege5. You would be surprised what hes hauled with that, even full sized u-haul trailers. Its crazy.

Flat towing is not a big deal you guys live in IOWA not San Fransisco. On a second note there is no way U-haul would rent a full car trailer out to a protege5. Everytime i go to rent a dolly I lie and say my truck is a 4.3 v6....just for that reason.

yup, its crazy, that car has been delivering motorcycles all over the country for 180xxx miles. Its crazy....typical Mazda reliability! Powertrain still runs like a beauty...and all thats been changed besides of course regular maintenence is like the front struts.

3 days, eh? Well, with regular driving, that's about the best you could have hoped for. At least the walk wasn't too far. This would be the "Black Knight", correct?

Anyway, my advice at this point is to leave it alone, do some studying, do some reading, go to college, and leave the car alone until you have a real understanding of what you want to do, what is involved, and what your skill level really is. Just my two cents, tho. Sorry to hear about the car. That does suck.

Correct, the black knight, well, currently marroon, but next summer I want to add limo tint and paint it midnight black. My dad and me are planning on an overhaul or a transplant next summer.

Yup, thats just about what my plans were. I didnt really NEED it anymore anyways, I should be able to get by ok the till I leve next tuesday. As far as my skill, I have a "general understanding", but not alot of first hand experience. However, given that last summer I didnt know how to change an air filter, and now I can change brake lines, I should be able to figure it out. I have a pretty good mechanical aptitude, and if I put my mind to something, I can typically get it done eventually. Thanks for your help batman.
