  • drives fine, then slows and goes slower....??

ok,here is what it is doing..You go down the road(hwy speeds) drives fine, then all-of-the-sudden it slows. You can floor it and it stays the slow speed it went down to,or it goes even slower. Then eventually it gets back up to speed. Now,I got it home, left it running and opened the hood.I manually pulled the cable and it started to slow. Then I pulled it all the way open(1990 auto EFI engine,by the way)and it slowed, when I go to let it go or release it a little it revs back up ???????????? I trust none of the F*&^%$ mechanics around here,so,I come to the pros...you all.

Throttle Position Sensor perhaps not giving it enough fuel

Two 8 or 6mm cant remember screws to take it out - you will have to tug on it slightly to make it pop off; just dont twist on it. it comes straight off towards the passenger side

Could also be the elusive fuel filter. I know it's more of a problem on carb'd motors, but you're definitely not getting enough fuel one way or another.

I would try the TPS before the fuel filter then if you've already replaced the canister filter

I would say you are loosing fuel pressure I have worked on tons of cars with like problems and 9 times out of 10 its the fuel pump or pressure regulator. You can unplug the TPS and the computer will go into default mode it wont accel correctly but you can drive it and see if it still dies. Also may be a kink in a fuel line I had a caravan I worked on been to 3 or so mechanics charged the guy a ton of money and all it needed was a new rubber hose on the return side couldnt return fuel so it would overload and lose all power only would idle hope this helps
