  • Water temperature question

I have a water temperature question. What is the normal temperature readings. My gauge reads about little more than half when cruising and a little over the 3/4 when pushing the engine hard. Am I running too hot?

Could be 160, 180, 195, or 205. The 205 would make it run that high, but you're still in the safe area.

Probably. Usually it should read a little under the halfway point. Do you know how to check if your radiator is clogged? Basically you put your hand on it in several places, feeling for cold spots and hot spots. If there is a very noticable difference, your rad is clogged.

As an emergency measure, put your heater on to lower the engine temp a bit. The heater core is simply another radiator.

the thermal reisistor in the head is what provides the ground for the gauge (5v reff.) it's not an exact science for these, so there's something like a +/-10% tolerance on them. generaly, as long as your fan kicks on and the needle stays below the red, you're good to go.
