Dear Hawkins816........
I think first you should stop listening to this so called friend. First he tells you to drive your festiva thru a puddle, then tells you not to re-gasket a 20 year old engine, that you plan on having for a while. He sounds like someone that you don't need to listen too. On the other hand there are 900 active users here that all love and care for their festiva's, and wouldn't try to see if they float. But what do we know? Anytime you need good, sound advice concerning the best car ever, come here. And just tell your friend to ruin his own vehicle and you'll video it and he will be a u-tube star.
.... I am still disappointed that you did this to a festiva, but I will gladly point you in the right direction as far as fixing it. Good luck and keep it above water.

It would be cheaper than having to go back and put the water pump/timing belt at a later date. Might save the engine also. I replaced my engine/trans about 2 months past , and I replaced the hoses, timing belt, clutch, disc and throw-out bearing. I could have used the old stuff but, It was out and the prices at Autozone weren't that bad. I think with hoses, Clutch kit, water pump , timing belt, and rear main seal. I spent around $250 more or less. The hoses on my Festy had NEVER been changed and I bought it new, clutch had about 110,000 miles on it, engine /car had 263k miles. Timing belt was due for a change. Also changed the oil and new filter, changed the oil in the trans, old trans went out which was the reason for the change. The one thing I wish I had thought of, I didn't machine the flywheel surface. Now I get some chatter when starting off but.... I'm not pulling the engine just for that it's not something I can't live with as of now. Spending a little now could save a lot in the future. But you know your budget/time limits. Just an idea for saving a little time/possible failure in the future.

I be sure to check prices on all of those tommorow, probly a stupid ? but would i be able to just use my waterpump n thermostat from my old engine it only has 94k on it? i mean if there cheap i'll just get new ones. I plan on keeping my tiva forever so it wouldnt hurt but everythings adding up pretty quick here.Originally posted by batstiva View PostWater pump/ thermostat/ timing belt/ all much easier with the engine out. And not that much. Worth it to know they won't go bad after the new engine is installed.
