i swapped my gauge cluster with a lower mileage and cleaner one and the tach. does not work now. im confused i think the car was a 90 L-Plus and i own a 90 L-plus. could it just be the cluster?

Was the tach working before in your car? The title suggests that it was working and then it quit. If it never worked in your car, make sure that the black plug (left side) that connects to your gauge cluster has a yellow/green wire. That's the one that brings the signal from the coil.

It could be that the screw that makes contact on the back of the cluster was once removed and never put back in. It may look something like this:

Did you get it working? If so, what was the problem?

Great! I'm glad you didn't waste your money on a broken cluster.
