 Has anyone had this problem? Wiper blades only seem to last about 4 weeks, then they lose their effectiveness. Been this way since the "Mighty Festevius" was new.( 1990). Also is it common for the wipers to lift off the windshield over 65 mph.????

Mine lasted 15 years before I finally got around to changing them...
However, I rarely ever use the wipers so I never noticed any problems.
At high speeds the wipers do creep up the windshield a bit due to the force of the air against them.

Get yourself some aqualpel. Lots of detail shops/tint shops apply it for about $7. Or check ebay.

yes, those rain-x wipes are rad.
I put a junkyard windshield in a civic I used to have, and it would never bead water. I buffed it for what seemed like eternity, but still nothing. One pass with the wipes did exactly what I wanted. AND, it lasted a month or so.
You have to keep the bottle of wipes shut tight, though, or else they'll dry out.'89 L! -shaved, lowered, 17's, and two 10"subs. B6swap. Candy tangerine, flamed, painted carbon look hood/stripes. AND the roof glows in the dark... That was a dumb idea.

Down a long hill a Festiva would probably be able to hit 100 mph.
I had an '85 Civic S and the magazines said it could do 101. Indeed, I could hit that speed exactly on level ground. On a trip once though, I had a long downhill and I managed to go at least 107. Maybe 111. I can't remember.
According to my U.K. pamphlet on the Mazda 121, top speed for the 56 hp 1.1 L is 93 mph. Top speed for the 1.3 with 65 hp is 99 mph.
I'd guess a 63 hp FI Festiva has a top speed of around 95 mph. A good downhill ought to fetch you 105 or so.
The only way I could peg my 1400 cc Chevette (52 hp and about 2100 pounds) was to go downhill! Top speed of that one was probably around 83 mph.

I also got pulled over doing 147km\h on the 400 in Toronto, Ontario... The officer asked me if I knew how fast I was going... I paused... Chuckled... Looked down at the speedo... and said "Uhhh, 140 plus?" He sticks his head in and said "Uhhh, yeah, I woulda said the same thing" as he noticed my speedo only goes up to 140km\h. LOL
He gave it to me for 15 over for "my good sense of humor". Sweet.I'm here to learn... Teach me

aquapel >>> rainx
We sell aquapel at work, I didn't think it would be that great, my boss said give it a try (free of course), now, more than a year later, its still working. Not quite as good as at first, but that stuff has done WAY more than crappy rainx.
BTW, I try to hit 100mph at least every other week, blows the dust out from the cracks and crevices. Top speed on flat for mine is around 105-110 right now. Feels real good and stable too.~Nate

Rain-X isn't a good replacement for decent wipers. However Rain-X makes a windshield washer fluid that puts Rain-X solution on your windshield every time you wash it. Rain-X windshield wipers are like 10 bucks a piece and seem to last a long time. But if your wipers have trouble keeping to the windshield at highway speeds, replace the springs that give them tension.

RainX wiper fluid puts others to shame!! water beads off so well...i almost didn't care about wanting the intermittant speed
