Haven't been able to try it again. Luckily a guy I work with lives in my apt. complex and he was heading to work right when I was so I just grabbed a ride with him. Hoping the alt. is just froze up....guess I'll check that first as soon as I get out of work tonight

Ok, just got off work and got under the hood. There was definitely a good bit of belt dust/residue from the alt. belt. Took that off and checked the alt. and it spins freely. So I cranked up the car and it ran fine. Guess I just need a new belt?

All pulleys spinning freely? I don't see a bad or worn belt smoking, unless it was tensioned too tight.

Yep, everything was spinning freely....don't really understand it myself

A friend had a 66 charger with a 383 cu. in. v-8. He went out to start it one morning in the winter and it did what your car did. His water pump had froze up during the night. I took off the radiator cap and there was a green slush in the radiator. Let it thaw out for a few hours and it was fine. Evidently the anti-freeze had lost it's strength and was no good any more. You may want to check your anti-freeze and make sure it's up to par.

Man, that's gotta be it! I have been meaning to put new anti-freeze in the car because I know I've got a weak mixture in there. Good call!!

I was thinking that when I asked how cold is was there. If it freezes at 30 degrees you better change it quick. It must be nearly straight water.

Another 30 degreen morning....started the car to get it a little warm and then water started pouring out of the bottom of the engine. A round piece of metal fell off as well, looks kinda like a bottle cap.....freeze plug? What do I do now?

You can get new freeze plugs. They even have a rubber repair one that has a screw to tighten up and hold it in.

Sweet. I just did some searching on here and found out it's definitely a freeze plug. Any experience with the rubber ones? If I go with another metal replacement, any special way or tool I need to put it back in?
