Ok, just got off work and got under the hood. There was definitely a good bit of belt dust/residue from the alt. belt. Took that off and checked the alt. and it spins freely. So I cranked up the car and it ran fine. Guess I just need a new belt?"Lane, I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy."

All pulleys spinning freely? I don't see a bad or worn belt smoking, unless it was tensioned too tight.

A friend had a 66 charger with a 383 cu. in. v-8. He went out to start it one morning in the winter and it did what your car did. His water pump had froze up during the night. I took off the radiator cap and there was a green slush in the radiator. Let it thaw out for a few hours and it was fine. Evidently the anti-freeze had lost it's strength and was no good any more. You may want to check your anti-freeze and make sure it's up to par.1960 willys pickup

I was thinking that when I asked how cold is was there. If it freezes at 30 degrees you better change it quick. It must be nearly straight water.sigpic
