So I got in my car this morning to go to work, tried cranking it and it was struggling. It started up on the second try but there was immediately an insane amount of smoke coming from under the hood! Popped the hood and noticed that a terrible squeal and all the smoke was coming from the timing belt/water pump area. I just changed both of those out in october. So I just wanted to ask if this is the normal occurrence for when a water pump fails? Or maybe something else has happened?

It's 30 degrees right now. I haven't had any problems with it until this morning either. I know I just need to get in there and take a look but it's gonna be hard since the car is at my apt. complex and working on cars isn't allowed in the parking lot there. If I can get it to my mom's house I'd be able to fix it, I just don't want to mess something up even worse trying to drive it over there."Lane, I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. Maybe the alternator is siezed?
Mine was when I got the car and made clouds of smoke and sounded just like you're describing. If so, hit it with some penetrating oil.Festiva: Because even my dog can build a Honda.

If it runs, then it's not the timing belt. If you alternator was wet from driving and being warm when you parked it, then it could have frozen up. Belts sqeal, and smoke when a pulley isn't turning.-Greg

If all else fails I just might have to go with a bp myself. Seems easier to find those around here than the b8"Lane, I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy."
