With meter:
checked 3 coils, off vehicle, for resistance. 2 coils(original and 3 month old mallory) had.8 ohms, one NEW accel coil had 1.3-1.4ohms reading, none gave spark to engine block with coil wire held up to bolt on engine.
checked voltage on wire leads to coil and had 5.7 volts with key to on position. I miss anything?
I'm thinking that it may be the ignition switch, or the fusible links now?
FB71 said in a post, coil should be 3-4 ohms resistance, but on my working original coil and just replaced 3 month old mallory coil getting .8 ohms and brand new accel coil checks 1.3-1.4 ohmsLast edited by drddan; 01-31-2010, 05:53 PM.Dan

^^ Between .8 and 1.8 according to my Hayne's, so they seem alright.
As far as the fusible links, don't remove the box, pull (gently and carefully so as not to break anything) the wires off. Borrow an emory board, sand down the contacts a bit if they are at all nasty, put them back on. See what you get, voltage seems low to the coil, only 5 -5.7?

If its the fuse links, wouldnt I be getting no voltage? Do they corrode and suffer low volt problem?Dan

Yes. They can corrode in such a way to allow limited voltage through. Not saying they are your problem, just something to try.

Geneva..sorry, wasnt getting any hits and sunk off of new thread list , I am in crunch mode as it is crunch time to get it fixed, guess I wont make it to work tomorrow...
Bat...thanks for the info ...and all who replied
Still not running and I have no transport or source for ignition switch. Will be looking into fuse links, as stores closed before I could get to one
Do you all agree with it being either ignition switch or the fusable links, then?Dan

Checked voltage on wires to coil and getting 5 1/2 volts with key in on position. The only thing left is ignition switch right? Any help here is appreciated... I have to get to work tomorrow and this is only vehicle. Thanks in advance........
Tried 3 coils. The original, 3 month old mallory on there when problem started, and a NEW accel coil.
No blue spark coming from new Tayor coil wire when grounding to engine on all 3 coils, which are btw, checking ok (.8-1.3 ohms resistance with meter)Last edited by drddan; 01-31-2010, 10:08 PM.Dan

Talked to Tom (TominMO) today, right after he got back from Florida. He is coming over Monday to help out with Redbeast and see if we cant get it up and runnin'!
He's got cartridge replacements for the fusable links and is going to try and retrieve the ignition switch from his old white parts car! What a guy! And if that dont work, he's offered one of his cars so I can get to work!
Let's here it for Tom and we'll post up if we get it runnin' and what was wrong with it.Dan

Pretty cool...nice one Tom.
If the car is turning over I am going with NO on the fusible links.
I am not great with diagnosing but could it be the ECU?"FLTG4LIFE" @FINALLEVEL , "PBH"

I believe you mean the ignition module, which is in the distributor on 88-89 models. I have no power coming out of coil, before it gets to the disitributor. As far as the engine cranking, that is the starter turning the engine. Does the MAIN fusable link have something to do with the starter? I would think that would not be related to the ignition system.Last edited by drddan; 02-01-2010, 01:12 AM.Dan
