88 carb just died out of the blue after i installed msd blaster coil. read up a few threads but i cant understand most of the parts without seeing pics. ill try to get a haynes repair manual. i also have a msd box 6200 that i didnt install just yet.

seems that the distributor seems to be the problem. the jumper wires are fine but ill do the fuse thing soon. im not getting any spark as well from the coil and wires....

as far as the msd coil and box its just the two heavy wires (neg and pos), 12v switch, and the two wires that connect to the blaster coil???

yes, the MSD coil fried your ignitior module inside the distributor. The primary resistance is too low, causing excessive amperage draw thru the module.

No, the MSD box should also have two or three pickup wires. They connect to a plug on one end of the box. These need to get connected to a good distributor.

if the MSD's primary is too low, that makes me wonder about the accel super coil i have in Scrappy (been there 3 years now). not saying it's gonna hurt anything, but it may be a more compatible alternative.

I been wondering about the connection between MSD Blaster coil use and failed igniter modules.
We have had more than a few lately.
Does someone make a coil that wont cause the excessive amperage draw and yet still give you the wanted higher output voltage?
Which leads me to the question, if your running a higher output voltage are the recommended/OEM plugs and wires still the best option considering the higher voltage?

I just did a search on Summit Racing's site. Just do a basic search for "ignition coil" and then on the left side of the page you can narrow your results. Pick "Ignition Coils" from that menu. Then using the narrow results bar again - scroll down the screen until you see where you can narrow results based on "Primary Resistance" and click on "Show All". Near the end of this list select "3.000 ohms".

shouldn't need a resistor with a coil greater than 3.0 ohms

odd, i have had no problems with my blaster ss coil and msd btm....knock on wood. I should get a spare dist/ignitor next time i go to the treasure yard.
