    Yup, a shrinking hammer and a dolly works well for the old "oil canning" problem and is the best way to solve the problem. It's not that hard to do and there's many books about simple body work techniques that cover how to do it. Bondo or body filler should only be used for small imperfections and the less used the better. I prefer Evercoat's Metal 2 Metal due to it's corrosion resistance and great adhesion.
    If a hammer doesn't fix it you have an electrical problem

        One would think a shrinking hammer would get increasingly harder to use over time lol

          You just use it until it gets to the size of a tack hammer and then you take it back to the store and tell them you bought the wrong item




          Oh, and I should add to my previous post that a shrinking hammer isn't exactly the best way...but it's one of the easiest for someone with little experience. Probably the best way is to use heat to thicken the metal in conjunction with the hammer and wooden dolly. But it takes some practice and skill.

          Also, you have to be careful with any hammer and dolly combination (especially metal dollies) because if you strike the hammer directly in line with the dolly behind the piece you are working on...i.e. - like and anvil, you run the risk of making the metal thinner; which stretches it.

                  LOL...but seriously I did some research about metal shrinking and looked at some vids on youtube. My roof has the "oil can" effect pretty badly. I can pop the dents out bu as soon as I close the door, they pop back. The warps/dents are pretty large so I guess i just gotta take my time and keep heating and cooling small areas.

                    I put in (3) 2in x 1/8 in thick aluminum bars between the cross supports and the roof. I used liquid nail to hold them in place. Seems to have fixed the movement. Be careful not to get the grinder too hot on the 36 grit.

                      I went over the car yesterday to see what places need to be shrunk. One of the places is right next to the flap that covers the fuel cap/neck. I dunno if it is a good idea to heat that area up what do you guys think?

                        I think there are ways to accomplish the job without heat.

                        You need to practice on scrap metal before you try a permanent repair on your car.

                        Sometimes, all it takes to get rid of some "oil canning" is a little light tapping with a hammer and body spoon.
