  • Replacement CV boots

    Anyone ever used these?

    Are they effective or am I going to to have to cough up for a new axle?

    if you go with the one piece boot they are, the split boots are junk.

      Agreed. Get the solid boot. More work but they actually do the job. Just make sure the axle wasn't clicking or has play!

        Solid boot it is.

        The axle is fine. No play or noise. I know the old boot broke recently since it was intact a few weeks ago when I changed out the front wheels.

        How much work is involved in replacing the boot? Does it require special tools?

          you'll need a pair of snap ring pliers, lots of paper towels/rags, some new grease, and about 2 hours give or take. Also it helps to have the special pliers for the CV band clamps for the boot, but you can make due without them. Most boot kits come with a worm screw type clamp anyway (much like a hose clamp).

          If you are handy with needle nose pliers and a screwdriver you may not even need the snap ring pliers, but they are nice to have.

            The one piece boots are nice...we replaced one on my buddies jeep and it is niiice

              Looks I got me a project for this weekend now, lol. Can I use regular moly grease or do the CV joints take something special?

                Also get the good boots from NAPA. About double the cheap price. Cheap boots only last about a year.

                  moly should work fine.. just pack it good.

                    No snap ring on the outside festiva joint and I am assuming that is the one that has the broken boot.

                    Use CV grease. The new boot should come with it. If not, they sell it separately.

                      ^^^ correct, it is the outer boot.
