  • What are these marks for?

What are these marks for? The T mark and the 10 mark? I marked it in red in the pic attachment. And there is also another mark. It's a plastic line. I marked it in yellow in the pic attachment. Which one should be used to set the ignition timing?

"t" means as it states in the pic , t is top dead center for engine timing and the numbers are for ignition timing..

hook up a timing light to the #1 plug wire (inductive pick-up)
loosen disty bolts (leave top slightly snug)
install Tachometer on the tach plug near the Ignition modual
install grond jumper on the sti plug
            start motor
point timing light at the red circle
using the white mark adjust the distributor by turning until the white mark lines up with the desired degree mark on the red circled tab
            shut off motor
            tighten disty
start motor again and make sure tightening did not change adjustment.
            disconnect added equipment
while the tac is installed and the sti is grounded you can adjust your tps sensor as well.

I can not find the timing marks on the pulley.
Is there a notch on the pulley or crank?

I tried adjusting my timing tonight.
I could not get my pulley mark to line up with the 10th mark on the scale.
I used the second mark on the pulley (one on right).
If I moved the dusty forward and the engine bogged it would get close to the scale but not on it.
I could line up to the little tab just like as circled in yellow above. However I had smoke and super strong exhausr and little acceleration.
I have put my disty back where it was working for now

The reason I wanted tk adjust my timing is because I had replaced the head and set timing based on engine runing and butt dyno. I also have rich exhaust. I get upper 30s mileage but if I can correct the running rich that would be great.

I apologize for misspellings and bad structure; I'm typing the on my phone.

In that case T is for top dead center (TDC) and 10 is for 10 degrees before TDC (BTDC)

I have replaced my timing belt and it is lined up correctly.
I just adjusted my timing. I used the second notch on the pulley- the one marked for ignition timing in the picture.
I could not get it to line up with the 10btdc on the scale but it will line up perfectly with.the small tab just like in the picture. My car has plenty of power and runs great however the exhaust still smells rich. I jave changed the coolant temp sensor to make sure the computer is getting a good reading. The o2 sensor was replaced a few months ago with a Denso unit. The spark plugs, wires and rotor were replaced as well.
I think that either my car is running rich or not burning all of the gas in the cylinders. It runs fine but unburned gas isn't very efficient so i would like tk try to fix this.
The coil is original to the car and has 68000 miles. The fuel injectors came on the engine which has 185k or so.
Would old injectors dump too much fuel? Or would an incorrect spark plug.not fully combust the fuel.
