I missed one screw buried in the middle at the bottom of a recess.
It comes apart easily after that. I changed the heater core. The previous owner tried to remove the heater hose by sawing it off. He sawed part way through one of the brass nipples. Then he bent in the side of the tube. I also re/re the impeller after cleaning it with DAX and about fifteen Q-Tips.
Now I just need to buy some foam tape to seal around the plenum.

(re/re = removed and then reinstalled)

Are there seals around the nipples that protrude through the firewall?

            Me too

            Actually Webby,
            Whats your symptoms?

The car I got has both front carpets really stained, kinda looks like the carpet was filled up with oil. then dried out, but not oily to touch. so the coolant makes sense to me.
also the owner said the heater leaks so his mechanic said not to use it. which makes sense to me where the marks came from.

now the car is over heating to which I think is because its losing coolant

how to we make it bypass the heater, and as some one said would that really not pass rego inspection?

Keep it full of coolant as serious overheating could warp the head or blow a head gasket. Big $$$

In the engine compartment two hoses go through the firewall to the passenger side. Take both off and put a piece of copper tubing between, put two hose clamps on each side as the tubing is smooth and there is 13 pounds of pressure in the system. That fix is behind and below the engine so it will be seen by an inspector only if the car is raised and carefully checked from underneath.

Very much depends on location, and inspection station. Some are picky and go strictly by the book, others if it runs, and lights, horn and wipers work, in and out.

I found a station locally that is in and out - 10 minutes, $13.50. I make sure everything works and it has good tires when I go in.
