sound to me like you hit the speed limiter. I must admit I never heard of anyone conplaining about an aspire no doing 100, but lots of t bird and mustang owners did in the mid to late 90's . Ford and other manufacturers did a lot research into tire blowouts while driving (remember the explorer?) and found that if someone drove and over 100 mph for an extended length of time on tires that were not speed rated, the tires would overheat and cause blowouts. Since there was no reason to spend the extra bucks on the purchase price by adding expensive tires on a vehicle that could barely reach 110 , the easy answer was to limit the top speed internally in the ecu. This setting cannot be changed or adjusted and it even still functions going downhill where horsepower is a lot less of an issue

Yes I know it was present on many cars... But of all of them I'm afraid this isn't one of them. I'd bet my life on it. In this case horsepower is the problem here.1997 Ford Aspire, MTX, Teal, B3E - "Trusty"

Yup Im pretty sure it doesnt have a limiter either.
I know my tbird doesnt. Ive been to 130 in it... did 120 in my capri, 125 in my gf's old shadow.
Of course those were all 'performance' oriented vehicles. In the case of the festy/aspire Im pretty sure they knew they would be horsepower limited.91GL BP/F3A with boost
