  • Just wondering if this is normal....

I am now the proud owner of a 1993 Moneypitstiva, lol

anyways, I traded my boat for this car. 1993 5 Speed, L. Turns out the car has been sitting for a while, so you can imagine the condition the brake lines are in. Needless to say, I have one brake (pass. side front) that is about, eh, idk, .121458% working.

My question is this, even with no leaks elsewhere, shouldnt the pedal firm up after a few pumps if the motor isn't running? I know when my 1992 Gmc Sierra blew both the front and rear lines at the same time, After a few pumps with the engine not running, the pedal got firm. Could it be a seal in the master cylinder? or possibly the brake booster?

and another thing that idk anything about, is it normal for the idle speed to drop when it is put in gear? I've never had any other standard do it to me.

sorry for the long post, but thanks in advance for maybe possibly and help

If you don't have any leaks (including the MC piston), the pedal should firm up after a few pumps.

As far as the idle changing when you put it in gear, I don't know if it is normal or not, but mine does it as well. Sometimes idles up, sometimes down... ?
The normal is not always normal... MOST is not ALL... And any job can be hard if you don't have the right tools!!!

front brake lines and rear lines wouldn't be that hard to do.. and the MC while your at it... all for around $120 ish.. may be worth it- brakes are fairly important..
as far as idle changing- no not really normal.. how much is the rpm's changing btw?? + or - 150 rpm maybe ok, but nothing over 200 for sure... what are you idling at anyway? give us some numbers.

        welcome to the forums!!

i'd love to giva ya numbers, but sadly, it dosen't have a tach. Its not to the point of stalling out, but it is noticable. as soon as i can get the car down to my house, i'll throw a tach on it and take a look.

and thats what i was thinking with that master cylinder. theres a salvage yard with a few festiva items near me, and they have always been reasonable, and all the parts have some sort or warantee on them.
