    If i recall, mine has always been between 1/8 and 3/16 of an inch... and also- my axle shafts are locking into the transmission like they should be...??
    distance sounds right....make sure you have no play (up and down) in the axle where it goes into the tranny. I had an auto I just replaced because the play was egg shaping the seals in 2 to 3 days and letting leak all over. Took 3 times to figure it out.
