hey guys i have put my 88 festy back together and i still dont know whats wrong i have set the timing replaced the fuel filter and bought a inline fuel gauge the goes after my mech fuel pump. it tells me that i have between 2 and 5 psi at idle but as soon as i hit the gas the car bogs and dies what is the problem... i think it sat too long and there is a block in the gas tank like another dirty filter or bad gas but didnt think bad gas effects it soo badly. im sorry for rambling but these are my thoughts... HELP PLEASE

Could be crud in the carb or a bad accelerator pump. Check the vacuum lines as well.

well do a visual check.... pull the air cleaner and look straight down the carb then blip the throttle and look for a stream of fuel to squirt from the passenger side of the primary barrel. if you see fuel, then double check your dizzy vaccum connections and test the vac advance diaphram with a vaccum tester.

It may squirt but it is not squirting enough fuel at the time that was mines problem.
It's the accelerator pump tube it is plugged up take the top of the carb off and pop the tube out and let it sit in a cup of seafom for a hour or two. Then take some carb cleaner and hook the hose to it and spray through it and it will show you how it is spraying. This is what i did with my 88 and it works great now no problems at all. Just the choke is acting weird on it. Try this and it should fix it.

I had an 88 carbed Festy that did about the same thing. Did everything that I could think of including buying a new carb. Finally gave up. Made a deal with my grandson that I would help him change the engine. We pulled the engine and removed the front pulley. Lo & Behold, the front pulley bolt had not been tightened up sufficiently causing the pulley to wear the key as well as the keyway making the timing (valve timing as well as distributor timing) be off by many degrees. We got a new key and "engineered" the keyway, put the same engine back in the Festy, timed it correctly and my grandson has been driving it to work for over a month. So, if your Festy is bogging down with no power and you have run out of options . . . check the front pulley.
