  • Injectors Not Firing - 1990 Festy Being Pesky

Hi Guys - I hope you can help. My 1990 Festy is bein a pain in the you know what. Car stopped running. It will only run if I pour gas in to the throttle body meaning the injectors are not opening and closing. Removing the fuel to the rail and turning the key on produces plenty of fuel. I also bench tested and cleaned all 4 injectors per the post here (that was cool actually and worked well!!!)

I have spark since it runs when I pour gas direct to the throttle body.

I have a new distributor in place from Rock Auto that has all new parts and modules.

Again it runs with gas direct to the throat of the throttle body.

Any suggestions are SO appreciated as I want to get the car running well again. I saw one post talking about the relay on the drivers inner fender by the coolant reservouir. . . what is that? Can I jump it? Ideas appreciated to help. This is driving me nouts.

maybe the inertia switch got tripped, any sudden stops or something extreme happen just before it stopped running? The switch is located under the drivers side rear speaker , there is a little hole that has a button to push ..... might help.

^^ But that would stop the pump, correct. I think he's got fuel to the rail, just the injectors are not firing. I think he's going to have to look at the relay.

I'm thinking relay or injectors not hooked up properly
Can't see all four injectors failing simultaneously.

Hi Guys - Thanks for your comments.

It cant be the inertia switch as gas is pumping to the rail. I thought the inertia switch stops the fuel pump, not the injectors. . .

Si if the car will run when I pour gas down the throttle body, is there a relay that controls the injectors? Or a fuse that could be bad?

I read in one of the posts about a relay on the drivers inner fender near the coolant reservoir. What is that one called and for?

Did you get the fuel lines at the rail mixed up? Try switching the return and in fuel line at the rail.

Before you dig into that, have you checked the fusible links on the diver-side strut tower.

hose from the top of the filter goes to the top of the rail, hose behind the rail (return line?) goes to the line running back down under fire wall.

inspect the injector harness that's under the distributor. It has a small ground that should be bolted to the head. Make sure it's there.

next checking the fusible links behind the battery on the strut tower. this has a new mini 6 fuse fuse holder. . . . its a replacement for all the former fusable links. . . should all of these be hot with the key on? >
